Cancel the debate to save the country!

John McCain today said that he is calling off the debate on Friday because he needs to go back to work to fix the economy. I really don't believe this crisis can be solved in a few days, and I really hope they spend a little time making sure they get it right, rather than just passing the first bill that comes across their desks. McCain thinks things are a little more urgent. From his statement:

America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, every corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.

So if they do not call off the debate, my federally insured bank accounts will be gone, and I won't get anymore paychecks. FUD, anyone?

Update: Republicans agree. Steven LaTourette, (R-OH) says "Whats the rush?"
